Living Voices: "Through the Eyes of a Friend"

Friday's special schedule accommodates a special performance of "Through the Eyes of a Friend," produced by Living Voices, which explores history and social issues through performance. We will be joined on Friday by the Seabury Middle School, as well!

The link to "Through the Eyes of a Friend" takes you to a page with resources about this and other Living Voices productions. Wednesday's MS Chapel will be designated as preparation for Friday's performance.

Please note the special schedule includes a brief morning Advisory, 45 minute classes, a 15 minute break/snack time, and a 15 minute Advisory time before Athletics. If the performance concludes before 2:00, students will be directed to head to Advisory.

Professional Dress

Just a quick reminder about professional dress in school. Please be mindful of the guidelines in the Employee Handbook. From the Employee Handbook: "Dress Code: AWS employees are expected to maintain standards of dress and appearance appropriate to the educational institution and individual’s position and responsibilities. Dress, grooming, personal cleanliness, and professional behavior standards contribute to the professional image we present to our fellow staff, students, parents and other constituents. Employees are expected to dress in attire appropriate to the work being accomplished. Body piercings and tattoos should not pose any kind of distraction. Faculty or staff members who may be unclear about AWS’ dress and appearance guidelines are encouraged to consult with their supervisor."

Conference prep...

Thanks for getting your availability for conferences to Neil - he and Anelisa are finalizing the Pick-a-time signups for Lower and Middle Schools, and they'll go live (hopefully) next week. Conferences are now a few weeks away, and more information will come this week regarding conference prep.

Faculty Meetings...

Updated All Schools Meetings for the remainder of the year...
  • Monday, February 26: Topic Group Meeting
  • Monday, March 5: CaP Facilitators Meeting
  • Monday, March 12: Topic Group Meeting
  • Monday, March 19: Topic Group Meeting
  • Monday, April 9: Emergency Training #4

Attendance procedures...

After Mid-Winter Break, please enter daily Advisory attendance directly on the LS/MS Attendance doc. The doc is included in the Important Links, above to the right on this blog.

From Anelisa: To be certain which students are physically on campus we need to record attendance specifically. This will prevent confusion during an emergency. Please mark the students Absent even if parents have communicated they will be tardy. Once they are on campus, I will then note they are HERE and change their status to Tardy.

Absences & Substitute Teachers

Anelisa has developed a form to streamline planning for substitute teachers. MS Faculty Substitute Plans is designed for anticipated absences - it captures the schedule for the day, and asks the teacher to drop sub plans directly into the doc. Please take a look - if you have any feedback or questions about the form, please contact Anelisa.

On a related note, please take a look at the Faculty Absence Coverage Protocols. There's nothing new in here (except using to the MS Faculty Substitute Plans) - just  a reminder. If you'll be out last minute, please remember to text Bill AND Anelisa at the earliest possible moment to notify of absence. Also, please be sure to complete the Employee Absence Form as soon as you return.

Accessing the OCC

If you haven't already, please be sure to log onto the replacement for the OCC. Below is the video John showed us. Please follow the directions to make a new account for IBO.org. Once you have done this, John will be notified by email that you have set up a new account (old ones for the OCC won’t work and you need to register as new). John and Clare are happy to help in any way we can, please reach out if you need help with this process. It would be great to have all MS teachers registered before Feb break.

Ordering & Supplies

Just a reminder - please direct all requests for supplies and special orders through the form the Neil created. The form is also linked in the Important Links list on this blog.
