Items of Note
Welcome back!
Thanks to John, Kyle, and Shelli for coordinating last week's Journeys, and to Shannon, Clare, Susan, John, Taralynn, Niki, Jen, Emma, and Taylor for shepherding our students on the trips. I hear that volcanic ash and immigration complicated the trip back from CR, and we'll be able to share some fun stories about our crazy night in SFO and mad dash to our return flight from California. I'd love to celebrate these wonderfully successful journeys - how about happy hour after school on Thursday?Summer Work and Supply Lists
Final details to be published in Summer News, including supply lists and summer work, are due to Communications by June 3. The Communications team is redesigning Summer News to include less information in the printed packet and to beef up the online presence. For Summer News, we'll provide a list of supplies and a list of summer work, but the descriptive context will be moved online. In preparation for this:
- Please take one more look at the Supply List, which includes some questions about particular supplies (composition books, index cards, colored pencils).
- Please take one more look at Summer Work details. If there are online resources that you'd like to make students aware of, please post it on this doc.
Repost: Followup on Summer News & Summer Work
I've created a folder for Summer News and Summer Work. Please add any final updates or suggestions to the relevant doc before the end of the month. We will aim to collate this information into a checklist to distribute to students and a page on the portal for more in-depth information.

Year End Meetings with Students of Concern
In the coming weeks, Jen, Ann and I will be scheduling meetings with families of students who have IAPs, special academic support plans or accommodations, or other structures implemented. For most students, these meetings will provide a chance to mark success and growth and to get a plan or goal in place for the start of next year. I'll provide a list of the students we're meeting with to Grade Level Teams, and we may invite Advisors to be part of some meetings.New Family Meetings
Over the course of June, I will meet with every student and family who will come new to the MS in the fall. These meetings will provide students and parents a chance to confirm Language Acquisition preferences and ask questions about the transition. It will also give me a chance to and for me to follow up on concerns communicated from LS or that emerged during the admissions process.Repost: Second Semester Progress Reporting
Now, we're still a ways off from the end of the year, but I anticipate that between now and June, time will, as they say, fly. It's never to late to start thinking about Progress Reports for the end of the year. For Second Semester, I'd like to propose the following schedule:\
- 6 June 8:00am Submit Course Summary to Course Summaries S2 2015-2016
- 8-10 June MS Second Semester Finals
- 17 June 8:00am Submit Student Narratives and Grades to Semester 2 Student Narratives
- 17-20 June Review of Student Narratives and Grades by Bill & Clare
- 21 June Posting of Semester 2 Progress Reports
As you think about writing student narratives, please keep the items noted on Example Semester Narrative in mind, both for content and formatting.
Advisors: Let's plan another round of Grade Checks to be completed by the end of this week. A template for messaging to families about the Grade Check can be found here. This will give us a little time before the trips to address any academic concerns and set plans to implement after we return from the far corners.
Repost: Follow up on the End-of-the-Year Events
Please remember to add any updates or missing information about year-end events to the Outline of End of Year docs.Advisory this week...
