Many congratulations to Liz and the cast and crew of Robin Hood!Professional Growth and Ongoing Feedback
Over the last couple of months, Clare and I were able to meet with everyone for Mid-Year meetings. As we discussed in each meeting, this was intended to be a continuation of conversations that began with formal meetings to articulate professional goals and classroom observations. I am really grateful for the chance to connect with each of you individually and for the openness to our observations and feedback, and I am especially appreciative for your feedback. Last week began another round of classroom observations. Our goal in this process is neither to critique the teacher or to get a glimpse of the "best lesson." Instead, the priority is to get a deeper understanding of what learning looks like in the MS and to provide a fresh set of eyes to lessons, techniques, or students.
As we move through this process, please keep an eye on next year - both in terms of your own professional goals and in terms of how observations are most useful to you. Next year, I'll encourage collegial observations as well, so please think about which courses or grade levels you would hope to observe and which colleagues you might invite into your class for some feedback. Also, please know that your feedback is always welcome and appreciated, especially as we navigate the end of the year at AWS for the first time. Any additional "heads ups" concerning the traditions at the end of the year are most welcome!
Second Semester Progress Reporting
Now, we're still a ways off from the end of the year, but I anticipate that between now and June, time will, as they say, fly. It's never to late to start thinking about Progress Reports for the end of the year. For Second Semester, I'd like to propose the following schedule:
- 7 May Grade Check
- 6 June 8:00am Submit Course Summary to Course Summaries S2 2015-2016
- 8-10 June MS Second Semester Finals
- 17 June 8:00am Submit Student Narratives and Grades to Semester 2 Student Narratives
- 17-20 June Review of Student Narratives and Grades by Bill & Clare
- 21 June Posting of Semester 2 Progress Reports
As you think about writing student narratives, please keep the items noted on Example Semester Narrative in mind, both for content and formatting.
Advisors: Let's plan another round of Grade Checks to be completed by the end of this week. A template for messaging to families about the Grade Check can be found here. This will give us a little time before the trips to address any academic concerns and set plans to implement after we return from the far corners.
Followup on Summer News & Summer Work
I've created a folder for Summer News and Summer Work. Please add any final updates or suggestions to the relevant doc before the end of the month. We will aim to collate this information into a checklist to distribute to students and a page on the portal for more in-depth information.
Follow up on the End-of-the-Year Events
Please remember to add any updates or missing information about year-end events to the Outline of End of Year docs.NAIS AIM Survey
If you haven't already, please complete the NAIS AIM Survey as soon as possible! During this week's Chapel, students will have time to complete the survey. If any of your Advisees are absent on Wednesday or are not able to complete it during Chapel, please be sure to follow up with them.
